Welcome to our design studio! In 2018 we set up shop in Portland, Oregon. Custom homes are at the core of our craft. From the initial concept to the final touches, we collaborate closely with you to design a home tailored to your lifestyle.
About Collin
As a registered Architect in Oregon and Washington, Collin is passionate about building heirloom custom homes in Portland Oregon, the Columbia River Gorge and throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Collin's architecture is fueled by his passion for art. You can ask him about his wood block printmaking, which serves as a wellspring of inspiration for his designs. He is also constantly exploring new innovations in building construction, particularly in the realm of passive homes and low carbon construction. In addition, Collin finds great inspiration in travel, and one of his top destinations on his bucket list is to visit the remote town of Marfa, with art installations and spaces by Donald Judd.
With a rigorous approach to project delivery, and respect for the craft of building he executes the design vision for his projects with a sensitivity to materials, building structure, and natural animation of interior spaces.
As a designer Collin crafts homes that are rich in character and strike a delicate balance between the organic and the refined. With a meticulous focus on durability and commitment to “slow” design Collin believes in creating homes that foster a profound connection between individuals and their living spaces.
Collin fosters a design process that engages the talent of skilled local craftspeople. He draws inspiration from the unique cultural and architectural heritage of each project's location, integrating local materials and craftsmanship into his work. By doing so, he not only creates structures that harmonize with their surroundings but also fosters a sense of pride and ownership within the community.
With a urgent understanding of the impact that the building industry has on our climate and passionate about shaping a sustainable building culture, Collin actively advocates for building designs that promote healthy living while minimizing their impact on surrounding ecosystems.
Beyond architecture, Collin is a proud Dad and actively enjoys drawings and painting with his daughter. Nights spent building lego block projects with her brings back a time free wheeling improvisation that works like a creative spring for new ideas in his art work.
To guide our work we reflect on the following principles and work to integrate them into all that we do.
adapt
Our design approach is process driven and seeks out new opportunities. We are small, flexible and nimble with a tailored process for residential projects yet are seeking opportunities to grow.
Listen
First we listen to the people and the place.
COLLABORATE & LEAD
Leading The Integrated Design Team.
Collin collaborates with builders, clients, engineers, and trade partners to foster a design process that is open and inclusive to individual enterprise as an engine for continual reinvention and creativity.
THE LONG VIEW
We Create Environments For Our Whole Health.
We specify healthy materials and research the toxic health and carbon impacts of common building materials.
Our building designs are driven by passive design strategies that respond to the climate as part of a holistic approach to create finely tuned architecture, responsive to the climate, community and tailored to the people who use our buildings every day. We create architecture integrated with the urban fabric, landscape, and inspired by the long view.
The practice of architecture is a regulated field and as an AIA architect I execute my projects with a standard of care for ethics, health and life safety, equity, and have committed to reducing the impact of my building on the environment. Read more about the AIA 2030 challenge here.
We work to integrate the practical world of building and cost estimating as driving parameters in the design process. We find the integrated design-build process encourages editing early and often. Rigorous editing distills the design to the most essential parts. When design editing occurs early in the process it is not detrimental to design quality but integral to design excellence.
